Taiko
Taiko is a word used to describe the traditional fat-bodied Japanese drums that have been an essential feature of Japanese culture for over 1000 years. Taiko performance consists of many components in technical rhythm, form, bachi (stick) grip, clothing, and the particular instrumentation.
Toowoomba
Toowoomba Taiko is a group of Japanese expatriates and enthusiasts who meet to learn this exciting discipline. We believe in the principle of minna no taiko, which means “Taiko drumming for anyone and everyone”, and are under the guidance of the Japan-based Takatsuki Drums. We are an inclusive, not-for-profit club, and seek to introduce Taiko to the wider Toowoomba region.
Toowoomba Taiko are very grateful for the support of the Toowoomba Regional Council and Toowoomba's Japanese sister city, the City of Takatsuki, for the generous donation of drums that were gifted to Toowoomba Regional Council, for us to have access to.
The group performs at a variety of events through the year, and are available to hire.
Come and see Toowoomba Taiko performing live, or follow on Facebook and Instagram.
